How to update your WordPress themes

To login to your cPanel account, you can login via

  • https://yourdomain.com.au/cpanel (your actual domain) or;
  • via MyToolbox.

Your cPanel username and password would have been sent to you in the email when you signed up with us, subject titled “New Account Information“. If you have misplaced this email, please contact us and we are happy to resend you this email.

It is important for the security and efficiency of your website that plugins, themes, and other updates are done in a timely fashion. Out of date plugins and themes can present a security risk to your website.

There are 2 ways to log into your WordPress account.

You can login directly using your WordPress sites login URL, which is typically:

https://www.yourdomain.com.au/wp-admin/

The other way is to log in through your cPanel account using either of the means outlined above.

Once in cPanel look for the link on the left hand side titled WordPress Manager By Softalucious

Select the WordPress Manager, and then on the next screen click on the Login button next to the domain you wish to update the themes for.

You should now be presented with a screen similar to the screenshot below. Mouse over Appearance on the left hand menu, and a drop down menu should appear. Click on Themes.

You should now be presented with a screen similar to below. If one of your themes has an update, look for the notification below and click Update Now.

Your theme update will now run. Note that your website will enter Maintenance Mode while the update is running.

While in Maintenance Mode you will not be able to access your website or use WordPress.

Once the update has completed your website will be taken out of maintenance mode and will be accessible again.

At this point you should open your website in an incognito browser window and compare the website to how it looked before running the update.

You should also check how the website appears when viewed from a mobile or tablet by using the responsive menu.

If you have updates available for your plugins, you should update these now too.
